How is CBG different than CBD and why do you need it?

CBG – The Mother of All Cannabinoids

CBG or Cannabigerol is a cannabinoid found in cannabis, just like CBD or THC. Most people have heard about CBD (Cannabidiol) but most did not realize there are many other cannabinoids that are present in the plant as well. Over 117 different cannabinoids have been found in cannabis, and each one is special and specific.

CBG’s popularity has grown because of its specific effects on the human body. It’s partially similar to CBD because it is great for pain and inflammation, but it also has very unique qualities that are a bit unexpected. CBG has been found to act on very specific issues, both psychological and physical.

Cannabigerol is showing promising results for ailments such as IBS or IBD. CBG is helpful with relieving internal inflammation, specifically in the abdominal area. CBG aids in relieving cramping of the abdominal muscles and even relieves common stress and depression associated with these disorders. Further studies show relief from contractions of the bladder muscles.

CBG is showing immense results when treating conditions revolving around the anatomy of the eyes. CBG reduces intraocular pressure, and has been quite successful when treating conditions like glaucoma. CBG is also a vasodilator, which promotes blood flow to the vessels in the eyes and decreases tightening in the muscles in the walls of arteries.

CBG is even showing promising results of being a cancer fighting cannabinoid. Specifically, CBG was shown to block the receptors that cause cancer cell growth. In one such study, it was shown to inhibit the growth of colorectal cancer cells in mice, thereby slowing colon cancer growth. CBG inhibited tumors and chemically-induced colon carcinogenesis, therefore demonstrating a very exciting possibility for a cure for colorectal cancer.

Recent evidence shows CBG actually acting as an antibacterial. There has been a few scientific studies showing its high antibacterial properties particularly against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). These cannabinoids are proving to even be more beneficial than some common antibiotics commonly prescribed by doctors. However, the dosing is still a grey area, so it is recommended to continue with medications you have been prescribed, especially for infections.

Cannabigerol is also an appetite stimulant – even when THC is completely removed. This can be very beneficial for patients suffering from conditions associated with a lack of appetite, or nausea. CBG is truly a unique cannabinoid, and it’s unfortunate that we are only now discovering the wonderful properties of the plant we knew little about.

The list of properties of the cannabinoid CBG is vast, and growing still. One important thing about CBG is the percentages found in cannabis – which is considerably low in comparison to the cannabinoid CBD. Farmers are starting to grow more plants with higher percentages of CBG by cross breeding different strains of cannabis. The percentage of CBG in an average plant is usually less than 1%. However, I have taken CBG sublinguals myself, and witnessed many other CBG consumers say that the potency of CBG that works for them is lower than the potency that they use of CBD. But always remember, everybody is different.

CBG is called the ‘Mother of All Cannabinoids’ because of its lifecycle. CBGA (Cannabigerol Acid – the precursor to CBG) turns into one of many cannabinoids when exposed to certain elements such as heat or light. This can possibly open up a whole new world of manipulating cannabinoids to be specifically beneficial for the consumer.

There is so much more information available on specific cannabinoids such as CBG, CBN, or CBC. We have a world of information at our fingertips, and better yet, Charlotte CBD will let you sample CBG in house for free. These amazing sublinguals are one of the few that show relief before a guest even leaves our store.
