Can CBD Ruin a Drug Test?

One of the most common concerns we hear about CBD is the impact it could have on a drug test. There are various factors and ingredients in CBD that could contribute to drug test results. If you’re new to CBD and find yourself asking “Can CBD ruin a drug test?” we have some answers that’ll help you:

Can CBD Show Up on a Drug Test?

drug test

In short, yes, there are some CBD products that can show up on a drug test. However, you won’t have to worry about this with most products since drug tests don’t screen for the cannabinoid CBD. Since CBD is federally legal, companies and organizations aren’t concerned about testing for it.

On the other hand, there are certain products, including full spectrum CBD oil, that have been known to cause positive drug tests. Not all CBD oils will yield these results, so don’t worry that all oils are off the table for you. It all comes down to if the oil contains THC or not.

There are common misconceptions about the differences and similarities in CBD and THC. While both compounds stem from the same plant, they have distinct characteristics and effects when ingested.

Both compounds affect the endocannabinoid system of the human body, but THC creates the “high” feeling, whereas CBD does not. Both have potential benefits, including reducing anxiety and depression and helping relieve pain and inflammation.

Legally, CBD is a federally approved substance and is legal in most forms in the majority of states. Currently, THC and marijuana are not included in the U.S. Controlled Substances Act, and are not legal under federal law. However, hemp-derived CBD with less than 0.3% THC is legal, with varying regulations in certain states

If you’re still asking yourself, “Can CBD ruin a drug test?” and you prefer to stick with CBD products that don’t contain THC, you need to use either broad spectrum products or CBD isolates.

Full Spectrum vs. Broad Spectrum

When deciding what CBD products you’d like to use, you need to first determine if you prefer full or broad spectrum CBD. There are pros and cons to both, and if you don’t like either of the two, you can try CBD isolate.

Full spectrum products contain amounts of every component in the cannabis plant, including small amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. This would be the compound that would show up on a drug test, but it is legal as long as the oil contains 0.3% of less THC. In states where cannabis and marijuana are fully legal, you may find oils with high doses of THC, so make sure to check the ingredients before purchasing a full spectrum oil.

Broad spectrum products also contain many elements of the cannabis plant, minus the THC. Research has shown that you’ll still be able to experience many of the same benefits with broad spectrum products as full spectrum, plus you’ll avoid any THC mishaps.

CBD isolate is a third option if you aren’t interested in either broad or full spectrum products. While it is the purest form of CBD, it is shown to provide less benefits than either product option mentioned above.

If you’re still wondering, “Can CBD ruin a drug test?” the simple answer is that there isn’t a simple answer. In order to avoid ever testing positive in drug tests, we recommend sticking to broad spectrum and CBD isolate products.
